Contrary to popular belief Rockne Tarkington was not the only African American in Mayberry. While he is the only to make mention in credits and the only to have an episode centered around him.
It seems that many folks want to know why there were no African Americans in Mayberry through out the series. If you look close you will see that Mayberry has had African Americans since the first season. While there were no story lines centered on any African Americans they were seen in various scenes around town. This page is dedicated to those who we did see and those we don’t.
